The default for ISPIN is the value in the param.inc file 6.12. Setting ISPIN=1 allows to do non spin polarized (paramagnetic) calculations, even if VASP was compiled for the spin polarized case. It is not possible to set ISPIN=2, if ISPIND is not 2.
